How You Remind Me by Nickelback
Fan recorded at AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas April 14th of this year. Founded in Alberta, Canada in 1996, this tune was their 1st No.1 hit song in the U.S. Lead vocalist Chad Kroeger presses his audience to sing along, bringing the fans at the Center to their feet! Chads brother Mike thunders on bass, guitarist Ryan Peake and drummer Ryan Vikedal do their part in making this song and band one of the most well loved acts on the road!!! See their Home Page, then go see them!

Love Hurts by Incubus
Heart wrenching torch song by this California group founded in 1991. A great song that I believe will become a money making standard. This tune has great listenability and is sure to withstand the test of time. Lead vocalist Brandon Boyd, Mike Einziger on guitar, drummer Jose Pasillas, Chris Kilmore on turntable/keyboard, and Ben Kenney on bass round out one very talented rock band! Complete information on their Home Page.

Dirt Room by Blue October
Here is a hot number from this Houston, Texas band formed in 1995. I think you will agree with me that these fellows burn up the stage and drive their fans in a frenzy! Their new album "Approaching Normal" has risen to # 13 on the charts. Lead singer/guitarist Justin Furstenfeld, violinist Ryan Delahoussaya, drummer Jeremy Furstenfeld, bassist Matt Noveskey and guitarist C.B. Hudson perform like clockwork on stage! Go to their Home Page for shedule of events.

Wrong by Depeche Mode
From Essex, England the band has written their best tune ever in my opinion. They still have that electronic edge but with a bit less bite that is music to my ears!!! Founded in 1980, the current lineup partially consists of keyboardist Peter Gordeno and drummer Christian Eigner. The remaining musicians are a bit of a mystery. Maybe you can help me out? Their Home Page is unclear with personnel.

Careless Whisper by Seether
Rock pounding rendition of George Michaels 1984 hit and show closer. From South Africa, Seether was the warmup band for Nickelback last March and April! Singer/guitarist Shaun Morgan, singer/bassist Dale Stewart, guitarist Troy McLawhorn, and drummer John Humphrey turn up the heat on this tune and blows the doors off the sucka'!!! Here is their Home Page.

Audience Of One by Rise Against
Hot Chicago band on the rise to the top! They have been in business and paying their due's for 10 years now. This driving song features lead singer/guitarist Tim Mcllrath, bassist Joe Principe, lead guitarist/singer Zach Blair, and Brandon Barnes on drums. This fan recorded video has pretty decent sound! Check the band out at their Home Page.

Use Somebody by Kings of Leon
The four Followill brothers moved to Nashville, Tennessee in 1996. Guitarist/lead vocalist Caleb, Jared on bass, Matthew on lead guitar, and Nathan on drums pull together and deliver powerful songs with spirited energy on stage! They are one of the nations hottest acts at this moment. Go see these guys!!! Their home page has the when and where's.

Jam Session by A Broken Code
Super Cool 2 man jam with drummer Ricoh and guitarist Eloh of hip hop rock band A Broken Code from NYC. These guys are packing houses to capacity every time they hit the stage. If you live or visit New York go to their Home Page and find out where they are playing. This is one cool band. See the entire band on this You Tube video.

Commotion by John Fogerty
Rockin' tune that sounds even better here than the original. Maybe that's because John didn't play Creedence songs for over 30 years due to royalty issues. His old record company ultimately was bought by Geffen Records and a royalty agreement was worked out that encouraged John to perform these old songs again. He's havin' a blast, you can tell. He's touring mostly in Canada during May and June of this year. Check his Home Page and head up to North Country!

Gamblin' Man by Bob Seger
The first black and white video to land on a LiveRockLover post. The only thing black and white about rock and roll is sheet music and keyboards. Everything else is in vivid rainbow color! The hit single was released in 1969 and I believe this footage was that year as well. His Home Page has no events scheduled. Bob will turn 65 next May. Sure hope he does more concerts. Hook up and tour with Steppenwolf Bob!

Gimme Gimme Good Lovin' by Crazy Elephant
Okay I have to bend the rules once and a while. This hot 1969 single is not live and just show folks struttin' their stuff on the dance floor. Just a one hit wonder gum wrapper throw away but this tune still sounds cool with that Vox organ and "suggestive" lyrics. Enjoy!!!

Crimson And Clover by Tommy James
Classic belly rubber by the king of the early days of pop. This song made the girls melt and I was always glad to take care of the cleanup chores. This song made it to number 1 and I do remember calling in requests for this song at the local radio stations on many occasions. Hey, if somethin' works, repeat the process until someone catches on! Tommy is coming to Tioga Downs Racino a few miles down the road from me this Memorial Day. I do believe I will be going without a date. Sure hope this tune still does the trick!!! Tour listings at his Home Page. Check the tire pressure on your Chevy Van!

Born To Be Wild by Steppenwolf
Frontman John Kay just celebrated his 65th birthday on April 12th this year. He's looking fantastic and still working hard for us fans. This song was featured on the film Easy Rider and will forever be etched into rock history. Other than John the band personnel has been completely updated and sounds near to the original. Oh those lucky people fortunate to go to one of their shows. I saw them at the Binghamton Memorial Arena about 25 yrs ago. Very hot show! Nice Home Page with concert times and locations.

Eli's Coming by Three Dog Night
Hit after hit came from this band like they would never stop coming. Not too many "duds" either. This song released in 1969 and performed here in 1975 is one of my favorites. The lineup on this group changed so much that I cannot figure out who is who at the time this was filmed. Rather than offend anyone I will just refer you to their Home Page. Much of the original lineup is intact and on the road working their hind ends off!!!

American Woman by The Guess Who
1970 was the the year of this footage and new found success in the US for this Canadian band. I was 12 years old then and today is the first time I have seen these guys live. Frontman Burton Cummings is near a dead ringer for Burt Reynolds. I always figured these fella's were hippie types but wow they are far from it! Lead guitarist Randy Bachman is laid back style wise, thank God! Never would have thought that such a hard edged tune would be fronted by a stuffed suit! I don't mean to be disrespectful but I calls 'em as I see's 'em. Their Home Page isn't working for me. See how you make out with it.

Screaming Head by Jordan Rudess
Phenomenal rock hard Korg Triton keyboard performance by master keyboardist Jordan Rudess! If you think of Chopin or Bach when keyboards are mentioned, watch this virtuoso roll 'em over in their graves with this intense rock composition. It takes an incredible amount of time to program a tune this complex. Notice he's reading the score on a monitor, the song is so intricate. For those hard rock bands that believe that keyboards are for pop schlop, hear this: If Jordan doesn't open your eyes and ears to what keyboards bring to the table you are most likely anorexic. I have a new hero. He leaves me crying in my coffee! His Home Page gives all the news. My good friend Garret Belisle loves this video too! visit his blog and say hello!

Wax On Wax Off By Mr. Fastfinger
Delicious licks by "Mr. Fastfinger" Mika Tyyska, thundering bass by Lasse Rantanen, rock steady drumming by Thomas Tornroos, and supporting keyboarding by Kalle Katz. This new band from Finland is sure to gather fans like a snowball barreling downhill! I love rock instrumentals, there simply is not enough of them. Instrumentalists are largely ignored by the record companies and it's so hard to find new acts like this one. Notice the neon glow of Mikas amplifier. He's one of a few fortunate players to own a Hughes & Kettner TriAmp MKII, one of the best amplifiers money can buy! For a description and video demo of this amp check it out here. Keep up with what Mike is up to at his Home Page.

Juzzy Smith One Man Band
Amazing sound coming from just one person. Wow!!! He's a man of few words apparently, he does not have a website for us to read what he's all about. About all I can say is this: if you think you can do better than Juzzy, send me your video!

Green Bottle by Howling Diablos
Funky groove with a backbeat that won't let you stay in your seat! The video quality is not the best but the audio and the song will rock your socks off. From Detroit, Michigan these fellows have been around since the 90's flying under the radar and jammin' all the way in the US and Canada. Tino Gross fronts the band with his signature rapper vocal style.Vocalist sax/harp player Johnny Evans, Guitarist Erik Gustafson, Drummer Johnny Bee, and Mo Hollis on bass rock the stage with style and energy like they are in love with the crowd! Event listings and more at their Home Page.

Before by Diesel May
Hard drivin', heart poundin' jump up and dance, stomp your feet, blood pumpin', stone hard rock song. Talent oozing out of their pores, this band from Alberta, Canada pours their heart and soul into thier work. Singer Chris Jennings fronts this group with fire and vocals that carry loud and clear. Drummer Chad Hutton, bassist Ryan Piecowye, guitarists Dean Scott and Mike Williamson bring on the decibels that packs 'em in! More info at their Home Page.

Drifting by Andy McKee
Absolutely amazing fingering technique by this fantastic guitar virtuoso. Andy tours worldwide with 100 to 200 shows a year. He began studying acoustic guitar at the age of 16 and has developed various playing styles that has brought him worldwide recognition and sold out performances. His Home Page has a full schedule!

Crawl Thru Fire by Adam Lambert
Amazing energetic stage show presentation of Monty Pittman and Adam Lamberts original composition "Crawl Thru Fire" Adam's voice is really indescribable and unlike any other I have heard. He is a master of many genres of musical styles including arena rock. It will be interesting to watch this star in the making once "American Idol" concludes and he wins the competition! He is a sure shoe-in to be the last one standing. See him on "Idol" Tuesdays & Wednesdays on FOX TV. Adam Lamberts Blog

Do It Again by Rusty Wright Band
The state of Michigan is where you need to be if you want to hear these folks live. Very unique song structure with just about every chord in the book. I do believe it would take me a month to learn it! Rusty has a great voice that is all his own and can run leads on his guitar as if he sleeps with it. I really like this song. Hope you do too. If you are in Michigan look up their Home Page to find them.

Brian Augers Oblivion Express
Keyboard great with a knockout jam to one of his old tunes. I should remember the name of this song but my brain is feeling its age. That's why I do crossword puzzles. Brian earned a living supporting Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Rod Stewart, Eric Burden, and many, many others. The photograph collection he has must be awesome! Brian's Wife Savannah Grace Auger does a meltdown job as band leader. Just like many households, Mama Leads The Band! You're sweet Savannah, If I were Brian I'd let you drive too! Their Home Page tells me they'll be in Niagara Falls May 17th. Lets grease their hotel suite door knob!!!

Green Eyed Lady by Sugarloaf
Jerry Corbetta resurrects Sugarloaf from the ashes for this performance of their 1970 hit. We get a rare glimpse of a Roland "keytar" giving the audience a clear view of the difficult fingering on this song. He makes it look very easy. Trust me, this song is a real challenge to master. I doubt I could still play it correctly. Appearances are rare but they do occur. See their Home Page. We are fortunate to have this little jewel recorded last year. Enjoy!

Drum Solo by Thomas Lang
Phenomenal showmanship from this Austrian native virtuoso KING!!! I have to wonder if he might be the drummer in the post below. Are all Austrian drummers this outstanding? He's been playing since he was 5 years old and as much as I love drums I'm grateful he's not my neighbor. He obviously lives, breathes, and eats drumsticks all day every day! His Home Page has not been updated in a couple of years. Anyone have info?

She by Break The Tape
Thundering drums drive this song in overdrive. No info other than they are from Braunau, Austria. Overall a good song with New Age vocal style layered over Hard Rock energy. What sets this off is by far the drumming on this tune! He drums as if it were a solo almost and manages not to overpower the mix or overtake the song! If anyone has info on this group please send it along.

Statesboro Blues by The Allman Brothers
40 Year Anniversary this year!!! Congratulations to one of my all time favorite bands! Much of my playing style was stolen from Hammond organ/piano legend Gregg Allman. This song is surely known by all Southern Rock Fans. Current line up consists of drummer Butch Trucks, drummer/percussionist Jai Johanson, drummer percussionist Marc Quinones, Oteil Burbridge on bass, with Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes duelling on guitars. This band is not slowing down, check out their Home Page and make plans to see them!

Key To The Highway by Derek Trucks Band
Southern Rock at its finest, this tune delivers all you could ask for. Lead singer Mike Madison fronts this band with a soulful edge having essentially the same lineup that backs Susan Tedeschi. Nephew of Allman Brothers drummer Butch Trucks, Derek started this band at the tender age of 16. He was put on the payroll with The Allman Brothers in 1999. Touring with his own band as well as The Brothers keeps this star very busy. His Home Page has all the info!

Just Won't Burn by Susan Tedeschi
Starting her career at Berklee, Susan began working with some of the Modern Blues Greats including master slide guitarist Derek Trucks. They had more than music in common and married in 2001. This soulful tune highlights her guitar working talent with wildly original sax player Ron Holloway, drummer Yonrico Scott, bassist Todd Smallie and keyboardist Kofi Burbridge. She is extremely busy on tour this year across the country. Her Home Page gives a full schedule of events. Go to her show!

Deep Pockets by Bruce Katz Band
Hammond B3 professor at Berklee College of Music Bruce Katz and his band have a mile long list of credits and accomplishments. His Blues Rock quartet tours extensively in the US, Canada, and Europe. This video taken in Norway features guitarist Chris Vitarello, bassist Rod Carey, and drummer Ralph Rosen. The song has quite a complex arrangement like most songs of this genre, carried out with precision, heart, and soul by this polished stone smooth quartet. Their Home Page is chock full of upcoming tour dates. Go see them!

Check out my friends blog and enjoy his Live Rock picks! Aerosmith is not in the dead zone yet. They have 3 live appearances in the US this year! See if they will be near you at their Home Page!

Saturday Night Special by Lynyrd Skynyrd
Signature song from this southern rock cornerstone. Lead singer/songwriter Ronnie Van Zant with some high school friends started a band named after their gym coach who ridiculed their long hair. With practice, time, and talent they grew from kid band to national phenomenon. Tragedy struck in 1977 with a plane crash involving Van Zant, guitarist/singer Steve Gaines, singer Cassie Gaines, Drummer Artimus Pyle, guitarist Gary Rossington, guitarist Allen Collins, and keyboardist Billy Powell among others. Van Zant with Steve and Cassie Gaines did not survive. The others suffered profound injuries. Surviver Billy Powell died this January of a reported heart attack. Last month the band sealed a deal with Loud&Proud/Roadrunner Records. Their Home Page will keep you in touch with their future plans.

Red House by Jimi Hendrix
1969 at Woodstock found Jimi Hendrix burning up the stage with his expert guitar work and soulful vocals. Growing up in Seattle Washington, Jimi's father bought him an electric guitar when he was 17...but no amplifier! He practiced relentlessly and started playing with local bands. His journey brought him to the UK where he worked and recorded with scores of blues greats including Eric Clapton. He recorded several albums and was relatively unknown in the US until he took the stage at the Woodstock Festival. He died a little more than a year following Woodstock. After attending a party and consuming too much wine he reportedly passed out at his girlfriends and drowned on his vomit. Sad ending for a talented star. His fans maintain a Home Page in his honor.

Voodoo Child by Stevie Ray Vaughan
Jimi Hendrix tribute skillfully done by one of the best guitar hero's of all time! Stevie started his first garage band at the age of 12 and was playing in the bars in Texas by the time he entered high school. His grades dropped and he fled from home to continue playing. He never looked back and become one of the worlds greatest guitarists. This video shows Stevie at his finest! Tragically he died after a concert gig in 1990 when the helicopter he was in crashed shortly after takeoff from the airport. His recordings are still selling well. Visit his Home Page memorial.

Moonchild by Rory Gallagher
Here is some nice footage of a great rock song by the late blues guitar legend Rory Gallagher. Rory was a supporting musician for many artists including Eric Clapton, Muddy Waters, Jerry Lee Lewis, among others. Born in Ireland he began playing live with show bands at the age of 17. He perfected his guitar playing techniques and became well known in Europe. In 1995, 30 years of alcohol abuse required a liver transplant to save his life. It was successful but he contracted MRSA and did not recover. Rory's brother Donal, runs a Home Page in his honor and several tribute bands have tour dates available.

Imagine by John Lennon

I'm sad to report that a senseless act of violence that resulted in the death of 13 innocent souls took place at the American Civic Center this morning in my hometown of Binghamton, NY. The victims fell to gunfire from a shooter that turned his gun on himself. No demands were made by the gunman. All that we know now is he was familiar with and he was known by some people associated with the Civic Association. There is no apparent motive that we are aware of at this time. Many of the victims were attending citizenship classes. This tragedy affects loved ones and families around the world. Our condolences to all who have suffered loss on this very sad day.

Green Tambourine by The Lemon Pipers
!968 #1 song on Billboard Charts. Upbeat TV produced this video that was televised across the country. The Ohio band was signed to Buddah Records and could not produce a hit record of their own. Record execs commissioned this song that the band reluctantly recorded. Lucky they did. This is their only song that took off. 9 years later guitarist Bill Bartlett experienced a flashback on another one and only hit "Black Betty" by Ram Jam. I think that might be a record!!! Lemon Piper Fan Page

Black Betty by Ram Jam
One hit wonder but it rocks! Not much info available on this 1977 song or the band. I can tell you that they had zero success other than this 32 year old song. Guitarists Bill Bartlett and Jimmy Santoro, and singer Myke Scavone are still cashing royalty checks from this song. Drummer Pete Charles and bassist Howie Blauvelt have both passed away. No website for the band

Hocus Pocus by Focus
Remake on their 1971 hit single. Hammond organist, flutist, writer, lead yodeler, Thijs van Leer of the Netherlands has brought Focus out of the ashes nearly 40 years after its hit single Hocus Pocus was released in the US. This extended version gets off to a slow start with a flute solo by van Leer then kicks into a very similar version to the 1971 hit. If you haven't heard these guys you are in for a real treat. The drums and Hammond organ are the meat of this song. They will be performing in the UK next month. Check their Home Page.

Thank You!
