Guitarist Ritchie Blackmore left Deep Purple and recruited Purples warm up band Ronnie Dio and the Elves to form Ritchie Blackmores Rainbow aka Rainbow. It was a somewhat brief alliance. Dio and Blackmore found themselves in disagreement on many issues resulting in a parting of ways. Blackmore had a reputation for having an inflated ego that caused him to be more than difficult to work with. We'ved all had to deal with egos haven't we? Ronnie filled in the gaping hole left by Ozzie Osbourne getting thrown off his throne with Black Sabbath at this time in 1979. Legend has it that Ronnie first popularized the "horns" hand gesture that became falsely associated with Satan and is seen waving in the air at every rock concert today. Ronnie's grandmother used the gesture to ward off the "evil eye" as was old Italian custom. Now all you Rockers know that you are warding off evil, not welcoming it! Arguments are sure to ensue.
